Diptych Dial

This dial has on the outer side of the upper leaf the inscription 'MONSTRO VIAM PERGE SECVRVS' ('I show the way, go on securely'), one of the commonly used mottoes on these instruments.

It has a pin gnomon dial for Italian and Babylonian hours, and two (vertical and horizontal) fixed string gnomon dials for common hours.

The decoration is quite simple, indicating that this was probably used as an everyday instrument. The mark of Hans Troschel is repeated three times at the bottom of the lower leaf.
